Introduction to Benefits and Tax Credits

A 3 day basic course, for the inexperienced advisor, that covers the major benefits and tax credits.

Benefits for Carers

A 1 day course, for those working with carers, that looks at entitlements to and interactions, both positive and negative, of benefits. Some knowledge of benefits is helpful but not essential.

Benefits for Older People

With the changes to women’s pension age, there have been significant changes to the older person’s entitlements. This 1day course covers the main benefits available to the older person. Some knowledge of benefits is helpful but not essential. This course is also an excellent refresher for anyone working with older people.

Benefits for Young People aged 16 to 20

A 1 day course for anyone who works with young people and their families, that looks at the range of benefits available for young people. This is a particularly complex area and a reasonable knowledge of the benefits system is advisable.

Decision Making and Appeals

A 1 day course which takes you through the appeal process from challenging a decision to accessing the Upper Tribunal. This course will provide you with a legal and practical framework for pursuing appeals. A good working knowledge of the qualifying conditions for benefits is essential.

Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance – Filling in a Claim Form

A well completed DLA or AA form is the basis for a successful claim. This 1day course takes you through the claim form using a case study to illustrate how to present information. This course will give you the confidence to identify entitlement and make successful claims. No previous knowledge is required.

Employment and Support Allowance

A 1 day course that is invaluable for those working on the frontline in a support or advice role. This course takes you through entitlement and the medical and non-medical assessments. No previous benefits experience is required

Extended Employment and Support Allowance

A 1 day course that considers some of the lesser known aspects of ESA legislation. The course, designed to increase breadth of knowledge and improve confidence, is invaluable to those working in a support and advice role. A reasonable knowledge of ESA is essential.

Housing Benefit

A 1 day course, suitable for advisers who have little or no experience of Housing Benefit, that looks at who can claim and the amounts payable.
Some knowledge of the benefits and tax credit system is helpful but not essential.

In-work Benefits for People with Disabilities

This 1day course looks at the range of benefits available to people, with disabilities, who are moving into work. The course is suitable for people with a basic knowledge of benefits.

Jobseeker’s Allowance

A 1 day course that looks at the rules and structure of Jobseeker’s Alllowance. The course is suitable for anyone working with clients who are or are about to become unemployed. No benefits experience is necessary.

Paying for Care Homes

The system for paying for care homes is complicated and this 1day course aims to clarify what happens in various situations. Some experience and awareness of the benefits system is helpful.

Pension Credit

This 1 day course looks at the rules and structure of the Pension Credit. No benefits experience is necessary.

Tax Credits

This 1 day course provides a detailed introduction to Tax Credits. The course is suitable for advisers who have some knowledge of the benefit system but have little or no experience of Tax Credits.

Welfare Benefit Update 2011

The Welfare Reform Act and subsequent legislation have created a significant number of changes to the welfare benefits system. This course looks at how and when these changes will affect both current and new claims. The course is suitable for experienced advisers with a good generalist grounding. Be prepared for a day of discovery and discussion.
